DH Contest Entry

By Jaymie. Posted in Contest | No Comments »

This is Ariana Jones.  She has been a Marié fan for a very long time, and she listens to Breathing Underwater very frequently; in fact, she says it’s her “all time favorite.”  She absolutely loves the Chiméra – EP, and she was inspired to take a picture of her eyes based on Marié’s song, “Diamond Eyes.”  Doesn’t she have beautiful eyes?? :)

DH Contest 3rd PLACE winner!!

By Jaymie. Posted in Contest | No Comments »

For my third place winner, I chose Frederick Awich’s digital drawing of Marié inspired by her music video for “Vanish” and the Chiméra album art.  He titled it “Dancing With the Stars.”  Pretty talented, I must say!! :)

DH Contest 2nd PLACE Winner!!

By Jaymie. Posted in Contest | No Comments »

For my second place winner, I chose Bruce Konzak’s drawing of Marié because I thought it was very creative and original.  Plus, I love the little description he wrote about his drawing; it kind of pulls the heart strings. ;)

I have pictured Marie’ dreaming of her Love under the shining moon light. She is holding a cherished gift reminding her of him. Perhaps the two Lovers who are worlds apart can somehow sense each other when they are both aglow in moon light =)

DHcontestNow, because I did say you can send multiple entries, Bruce also sent me another one as back-up, I thought I’d post it up too for fun.  I learned that Bruce is a very funny guy, and I love his humor.  If you were a fan of Marié’s from the very beginning, you may remember the shirt he describes in his email.  It made me laugh because I know of other Digbyholics that had the same problem with the shirt.  It brought back memories of Marié’s very first tour around the country.  Perhaps, this time around we can make a shirt that’s unisex.

So here’s the deal…
Once upon a time, I wanted to purchase a t-shirt after Marie’s concert, but all of them were covered with bouquets of colorful flowers and I thought … Hmmm? … not this guy, no way!
So I sat down and sketched up a design I thought would look cool on a Digby t-shirt … you know, something a dude could wear?

DH Contest 1st PLACE Winner!!

By Jaymie. Posted in Contest | No Comments »

I chose Michael Starsinic as my first place winner because his story about visiting Slovenia where his grandparents lived resonated with me.  I also loved his use of connecting his feelings of being in Slovenia to the lyrics from Marié’s song, “Home.”  I love it when a song captures the emotion of how you’re feeling in a moment, and I thought his story did just that and was very heartfelt.

Congratulations again, Michael!!

Here’s his story and the pictures of Slovenia that he sent me.  :)

At the same time last year when Marié was connecting with her family’s roots in Ireland, I was doing the same in Slovenia, so her song “Home” really resonates with me.  (Slovenia is a small European country bordering Italy, Austria and Croatia; it used to be part of Yugoslavia.)  My dad’s grandparents came to the U.S. from what’s now Slovenia in the 1890s and settled in Pennsylvania.

My parents and I signed up for a genealogy tour to Slovenia last September, with equal parts sightseeing and family history research.  We visited the alpine resort of Bled and the country’s capital, Ljubljana.  We found church records detailing the family’s history back into the 1700′s.  We went to the tiny villages where my great-grandparents were born and grew up before coming to America (although we did not meet any close relatives).  It was an amazing trip, and we’re hoping to go back again.

Hearing “Home” for the first time sent chills up my spine, because it captured so well my feelings about visiting Slovenia, feeling connected to a place I’d never been before – “In my heart I knew I was home, because I had dreamed this all long ago”.

The first picture shows the village of Podzemelj, in the southeast corner of the country.  It’s about a mile away from both of my great-grandparents’ villages.  The church on the left was their parish church.  (“Hills are singing me softly songs I’ve always known.”)

The second picture was taken from a boat on Lake Bled, looking back towards the town, with the castle on the hill and the cloud-capped mountains in the background.  It’s an amazingly picturesque area – google up photos of Lake Bled, and you’ll want to visit.

Marié had the chance to visit and perform for the talented kids at the Academy Music for the Blind.  Here is a video montage of the time she spent there and her performing an oldie, but goodie, “Say It Again.”  ENJOY!!
