We’re going to kick it old school with this one. With some special songs Marié gives a little backstory on her mindset in writing them. It really makes the song come to life as you listen to the story and start to imagine the scene. In this one Marié describes her personal struggle with the decision to pursue a music career instead of continuing school. Enjoy Beauty in Walking Away!

P.S. This one is extra special to me because it was taken (by someone else) at my first Marié concert. Funny tidbit, that night I actually met Marié’s aunt from Seattle because we just happened to be standing beside her at the show. She said that she never thought she would see Marié performing on stage because she was always so shy. :)

P.P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY KESHIA

Even though Marié gained a lot of her popularity on YouTube with her covers of hit songs, with the exception of Umbrella she rarely plays covers live. This makes it an extra special treat when she does play a song that she has covered. It may be because she’s had more time to practice them but they always end up sounding even more amazing live. Here is a cover that did get some concert time for a few shows, Marié’s cover of Beyoncé’s “Sweet Dreams”. Enjoy!

After singing a few songs standing up Marié will take a seat by her other weapon of choice, the piano. If you’re lucky and the venue has one it will be a full sized piano, other times it is a keyboard. Either way, this song is one of Marié’s go-to songs at concerts and she always seems to have a lot of fun with it. Enjoy!

After warming up the crowd with a few songs Marié will sometimes drop in a song that she is testing out. For one reason or another these songs won’t make the cut for one of her albums. These “homeless” songs hold a special place in our heart as Digbyholics because while they did not make the cut for an album they are great songs in their own right. They also provide further narrative into the stories that Marié paints with her songs, somewhat like a “director’s cut” for a movie.

Here is one that Marié played during her 2008 Unfold Tour, a fan favourite, My Great Mistake! Enjoy!

Remember the last time you were at one of Marié’s concerts? When it ended you thought, “Awww that was awesome!…but I wish she played _________, it’s my favorite!” Well friends, I have come up with the solution! The Every Song Ever Concert!

I must admit that I can’t take full credit for this idea, at Marié’s last show in Seattle my friend actually suggested it when Marié was asking the audience which song they would like to hear. I actually caught it on video if you would like to relive that moment.

Any who, without further adieu, the first song on our setlist is one that has led many Marié concerts…Avalanche!
