What song would you like Marié to cover? Why?

I’d like Marié to do a cover of Paramore’s The Only Exception. I’d like to hear Marié singing a Paramore song.

Can you share to us any MD-related encounters, experiences, or stories?

August 19, 2011 = The day I met Marié. I was on twitter and then Marié tweeted “Davao, looks like I’m heading your way to play some songs” And I was like OH MY GOSH! Marié, my role model, is going to play some songs here?! in Davao?! My hometown?! I was so happy and psyched about that. I asked my friend if she could come with me to surprise Marié at the airport. Luckily, she said yes! The day before Marié’s mall show, she tweeted that her flight to Davao will be early in the morning. The next day, me and my friend woke up at 4:30 in the morning. We went to the airport at 6 then waited there until Marié tweeted that her flight was delayed. I was so sad that time, and disappointed cause I might not see her.. but we waited there until 1 in the afternoon! Finally, I saw Marié. She was so shocked because we were there.. And I was holding my banner (and my knees are shaking. lol) She hugged us and told us that she wasn’t expecting that we’d be there. I was so speechless because I really wanted to meet her, and right now, she’s in front of me! She told me that she’ll be meeting us after her show. After my encounter with Marié at the airport, me and my friend ate lunch and then went to Nccc. After her show, we bought flowers to give it to her during her meet and greet. We were waiting outside the room for Marié. When  she arrived she hugged us again and thanked us. She is so humble and kind. During the meet and greet, she signed our stuffs, and she was having a conversation with us! After she signed everything and we took photos, its time for us to leave. We were about to go when she said “Wait, can I hug you guys one last  time?” I was so touched when she said that :’) I will always remember what happened that day. ? I never thought I’d see her perform live, talk to her, and hug her. It was a dream come true for me. :)

Message for Marie?

Hello Marié. I just wanna say THANK YOU for inspiring me, and making me smile. Thank you for your music, your music that motivates people. Keep doing what you love. We are always here to support you. I will always be your fan. :’) Hope to meet you again soon! Hugs and Kisses from Davao.

Can you share to us any MD-related encounters, experiences, or stories?

One afternoon, year 2008, i was flipping through the pages of a newspaper. skim, skim, skim, and then an angelic face caught my eye. Her name was Marié Digby. I read the whole feature and found out that she is a YouTube sensation and recently had a concert at The Fort. Man! I wish i had known her sooner. So i searched YouTube, watched her infamous cover of Umbrella but the thing that struck me the most was her song Miss Invisible. I was literally crying as i watch the video because the song speaks of what exactly i was feeling that time. I was like, “wow I am not alone.’’ From that day on, i became a huge fan.

I met her up close at her appearance at SM Sta. Rosa where we all hang out at Figaro after her performance. I got a chance to talk to her, even hug her. It’s an experience I will never forget and will cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you Nhanhie and the rest of the gang for that amazing experience. I owe it all to you guys. It’s not everyday that you get to talk and hug someone like Marié Digby. (Though some DH’s do haha)

What song would you like Marié to cover?

Hmmn I am actually trying to write a song for her. It’s not yet finished though because i want it to be perfect and worthy for someone like Marié Digby. So hopefully when it’s done, we can sing it together or something. (Hey! It’s Okay to dream right?!)

Describe Marié in 3 words:

Down. To. Earth.

I am a Digbyholic because…..

It’s the coolest thing to be! Everyone is so nice and will make you feel welcome in a family even though it’s the first time you meet ‘em. Being part of something special is just soooo cool.

What makes MD different from other singer/songwriters?

The first thing that made me love her is her courage. The courage to risk it all even dropped out of college to follow her dream no matter what. By that she earned my respect, love, and admiration to the highest level. Not a lot of people can do that. Her fearlessness inspired me to be brave and be better. Follow my dreams no matter what and I am starting on it. It’s risky, scary, but I don’t care haha.

Second thing is her transparency. She’s not afraid to tell the whole world what she feels, what she had been through (good or bad). She shares herself to the world and is not afraid to do so. Her songs come deep within her and make you feel that you are not alone. Really awmazing!

Third and the most amazing of all the reasons, her HUMILITY. She is really Down. To. Earth. I have never seen or heard of any artist, International artist, who treats her fans like she does. She’s so welcoming and warm even if she doesn’t really know you (Same as how DH’s treats new DH’s) but despite that, she will make you feel like you have been friends for years. You just got to love the girl!

Message for Marié

Seriously, when are you getting married?! lol just kidding. but we would like to know for sure. First, thank you for inspiring me (and million others out there). I had been better and braver. Thank you as well for bringing a pool of cool people all over the world together. We owe it all to you for giving us a new family. Keep doing what you love and whatever you do, you know that we, Digbyholics, always got your back. I wish you all the best. Stay humble, pretty, and rockin!

What’s your favorite song of Marié? Why?

I said without hesitation Feel cause it’s the song I listen the most often and it gives me thrill everytime I hear it, much emotion (even used it to create a Twilight clip)

Have you watched her performed live? If yes, how does it feel to finally watch her live?

I did and it’s something unique and unreal to finally see and listen to her as I always watched her on YouTube. I was so shy and nervous when i were next to her but I found some courage to tell her how much talented and pretty she was (fortunately, the room was dark so i didn’t see her face probably blushed :p)

What song would you like Marié to cover? Why?

So many artists I like but I would say Yoü and I of Lady Gaga cause she’s one of my favorite singer for her talent, her voice and her originality (so as Marié). I’m sure Marié would be able to make a great cover in acoustic and her lovely voice. After all, she did with the song Telephone^^

Describe Marié in 3 words:

Beautiful, smiling, kind

How did you discover Marié? Share us your story

The first song I heard from her was “Stupid For You” from a radio show featuring undiscovered talents. This happened in 2007 so Marié was generally unknown then. When the song ended though, I didn’t get her name (the DJ said it but it’s very unique so I didn’t quite get it) or the title of the track so it took some months later when a friend discovered her Umbrella cover and shared her other videos to me. I was
instantly hooked by her songs and lyrics especially in “Girlfriend”, “Miss Invisible” and “Voice on the Radio”.

Breathing Underwater was the first CD of her I got for myself. When the Unfold CD came out, I wasn’t too excited to get one because I already have her songs in my iPod and I know EVERY SINGLE SONG by
heart, But with BU, it was a different story. Before it came out in the country, I tried tracking every video on YouTube with concert footages of Marié in Japan or US which featured song from the album. I memorized “Breathing Underwater”, “Come to Life”,  and “Avalanche” in a week. When I finally got the album, I played it on the car non-stop (I still do on long trips) turning my family into Digbyholics as
well,

When she first went to Manila in 2009, I wasn’t able to see her because I needed to go to work. I regret having to choose work over going to her concert because I missed a great experience so when I found out she was playing at Sta. Rosa last August, I took my family there to watch. My friend Kath and I even sneaked in backstage to personally meet her! There she greeted us with a smile and we even had a little chat. Well, Marié and my friend had a chat because I was speechless and tongue-tied the whole time! But it was okay with her and she even signed my little notebook and posed with us for the camera. It was a very awesome experience for me and I am looking forward to seeing her again soon at a “Your Love” album launch/mall tour or perhaps a second MD concert here in the Philippines!

Describe Marié in 3 words:

Talented. Kind. Extraordinary.

I am a Digbyholic because…

I love Marié and I can personally relate to her songs. Of course it may have been written because she went through an entirely different experience than what I’m going through but the lyrics are somehow what I need to aptly express my emotions. And human emotions change a lot, that’s why I’ve got a different favorite MD song from time to time. Just recently, I quit from a job a I had for a short while so “Beauty in Walking Away” is my current heartsong. :)

What makes MD different from other singer/songwriters?

It’s undeniable that her physical and vocal beauty sets her apart from singer/songwriters out there but the fact that she learns her music basically by ear and not because she was a thoroughly trained musician makes her an extremely talented artist. Add to that is her very articulate songwriting, her passion for travelling around the world and her unconditional love for her fans makes her very special person and I am very thankful to her for sharing her musical gifts to me and to the whole world! :)

Message for Marié

Thank you so much for the beautiful songs!  Your songs have helped me go through some emotional hard times and helped me accept that sometimes what I want isn’t what’s best for me. Your songs and your success story have also inspired me to write more stories about things I observe and experience, making me discover that if I really work hard for it, I could make the good changes I want to happen to myself.

Thank you also for being such a sweetheart when we finally got to meet you. I know it wasn’t nice to freeze up in front of people the way I did but you still talked to me and even asked for my name and all of that’s memorable and awesome! Continue to write beautiful music and continue to inspire more people to accept themselves, not be afraid to try new things and change for the better.

More power to you!
