Marié was in Paris for her first European show earlier this year. Japan Lifestyle Magazine got a chance to sit down with Marié and chat about a wide variety of topics, from her show in Paris to her upcoming projects.

Thank you to @Ghisy for the scans and English translation of the article!

She created a buzz on the Internet giving a new life to songs we’ve all heard before. She has been chosen to represent JPOP at the latest MIDEM (world music market in Cannes, France). You will be seduced by this 28 year-old Californinan native.

(Interview by Carla Cino & Viky)

JapanLifestyle: “You are representing JPOP. How do you feel about it?”
Marié Digby: “I was asked to represent Japan at the MIDEM by Japanese producers. It was a good opportunity to share this culture and to put myself out there. Playing in Cannes was a little different from what I’ve done so far, more business oriented. Funny thing, my Parisian show (Jan 27th at the Archipel) was like the best moment of my trip.”

JL: “What did you think about it (Paris’ show)?”
MD: “When it started, I was like “this is risky but why not do a show in Paris?”. It was a last minute decision but, with some help, we managed to do it. I was shocked! I told myself “I’ll be lucky if 2 or 3 fans show up”. So, playing a sold-out show, even in a small venue (note from Ghisy: The Archipel is actually a small movie theater and the venue she played at was about 120 people), it was so much more that I had hoped for! (laughs)”

JL: “How did you pick which songs to play?”
MD: “As usual: instinct. It doesn’t work everytime because each country has its own preferences: Japan likes acoustic ballads, Philippines upbeat songs. I didn’t know what to expect from a French audience.”

As some of you guys have asked, Marie Digby arrived the other day in the Philippines.  With the Digbyholics’ recent interview, she shared to us that she is no longer under Hollywood Records so she wanted to be signed in different record labels in different countries and still as an independent artist in USA. She was offered to do an album in the Philippines and same as in Japan, and if she finds a good deal out there, she MIGHT consider doing an album in the said countries. Everything is still on the planning stage and we will update every now and then for the developments. Here’s the latest interview by the Digbyholics for more details about it.

But for now, here’s an interview from a local show, TV Patrol where she talked about the Japan earthquake and Sam Milby, Marie’s close friend, as one of the people who convinced her to do some projects in the country.
